My responsibilities I had involved overseeing our trailer yard and our Outbound Operations teams. I was tasked with creating a process that would streamline and increase efficiency in our trailer yard which would ultimately result in hundreds of thousands of dollars saved in labor costs.
I actually was recommended to apply for this internship by a fellow brother! I applied via Amazon Jobs last October and I didn't hear back until January where I was invited to two rounds of interviews. Applicants did have to take an assessment in conjunction with the resume submission but nothing too difficult for a principled business leader.
Alpha Kappa Psi exposed me to plenty of challenging opportunities, in which I was able to use these experiences to answer their interview questions. Not only did these opportunities prepare me for Amazon's behavioral questions, Alpha Kappa Psi also taught me what to expect in a professional interview outside of the classroom.
My favorite aspect about the internship was Amazon's relocation policies. Amazon has a generous relocation policy for its interns and it was an amazing opportunity to live in a city I have never traveled to before.
Of all the lessons this internship taught me, the most important lesson was how to be proactive in a situation where you may not know everything. One of the phrases I heard often during my internship was working at Amazon is like "drinking from a fire hose". Despite working in an industry which I knew nothing about, I was still able to deliver effective results once I realized the importance of having bias for action.
